They don't sound the same. The CVR has a thicker mid presence, it doesn't have the scooped black/silverface thing going on at all. It also has no negative feedback loop which adds tot he nosiefloor and allows for earlier breakup. I've bought just about every Vibrolux reverb i've come across for a good deal(300.00-800.00) in the past few years. I have six ranging from a 64 first run up to a 79 Silverface. Apart from the well know constructional differences you can't go wrong with either. There were three big differences between the blackface and early Silverface Vibrolux Reverbs.
